Calera, a legendary winery with estate vineyards located in the Central Coast, is recognized for crafting some of the New World’s most revered Pinot Noir. Josh Jensen, an American wine pioneer who founded Calera in 1975, was also one of the first vintners to pour at an OITF event. When starting out with the new enterprise, OITF found encouragement from groundbreaking innovators like Josh, considered to be outstanding in their field. Since 2007, winemaker Mike Waller has stewarded the fine wines of Calera. We will experience some of Mike’s select vintages as we dine at our table set in the hillside vineyards with stunning views of the Diablo Mountain Range. Chef Mike Fisher is also a big deal in the little town of Hollister just below Calera’s Mt. Harlan vineyards. His “keep it local” approach, sourcing from a bumper crop of area farms, definitely keeps the locals happy. A native son of this agricultural valley, Mike flew off to Paris to study at Le Cordon Bleu, then spent five years working with top chefs around the U.S. before coming home to roost.
